Governor Extends Elective Surgery Ban

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Despite a letter from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association asking him to allow non-emergency surgeries, Governor Ralph Northam has decided to extend the ban on them until May 1st.  It was originally suppsoed to expire on April 24th.

Northam says the week will give them time to determine how to safely ease restrictions, and deal with the availability of protective equipment.  The VHHA says there are enough beds and equipment available, and that the surgeries could be handled safely.

Northam also extended the closure of DMV offices until May 11th.  Inspection enforcement was already suspended through the end of July.
